News for October 11, 2013

On September 30, 2013 at about 7:30 a.m., the Sheriff's Office received a call from the owner of the Frontier Diner, 213 West Grand in Cheraw reporting that a window had been broken out of a screen door on the building the previous night.  No one had entered the diner.  Corporal Carol Coates investigated.

On September 30, 2013 at about 8:30 a.m., the Sheriff's Office responded to a call of a minor arson at a residence in the 100 block of South Fourth Street in Cheraw.  The homeowner reported a fire on the back steps to the house overnight that had burned itself out.  Damage was about thirty dollars.  Corporal Carol Coates investigated. Additionally, Corporal Coates responded to a call at 219 Grand for another window that had been broken overnight on the front door.  There was no entry to the building.

On October 9, 2013 at about 12:00 p.m, the Sheriff's Office responded to a call for service in Swink at an address in the 300 block.  Deputy Brian Valencia responded.  Two young men that were walking by the home in the 300 block of Powars stated that Colten Mast, 23, of Swink started yelling at them and threatening them.  A fight ensued before the Sheriff's Office had responded to the scene.  Colten Mast was initially charged with menacing and disorderly conduct.

On October 9, 2013 at about 7:00 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a call of burglary at a residence located at 24620 Cuchara, just west of La Junta.  The homeowner reported someone had broken into the residence.  Taken was a quantity of cash from a dresser drawer.  Deputy Brian Therrien responded.

"The charge(s) are merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty."
