News for August 27, 2012

On August 12, 2012 at about 12:00 p.m., Deputy Rick Ramsay responded to an address  in the 900 block of West 6th Street West of La Junta.  Upon arrival, Deputy Ramsay spoke with the homeowner who reported the theft of a small Craftsman brand air compressor and a Chicago Drill press.  Total loss was estimated at about $170.00.  The tools were removed from the yard. 

On August 18, 2012 at about 10:00 a.m., Deputy Alex Gillette responded to an address in the 500 block of Grand in Cheraw to take a theft report.  The reporting party reported to Deputy Gillette that someone may have removed a quantity of a prescription drug from the residence between August 17 - 18th.  The case is under investigation.

On August 20, 2012 at about 2:00 p.m., Deputy Alex Gillette responded to an address in the 20000 block of Highway 50 in the Rocky Ford area to take a theft report.  The reporting party reported that he had entered ArkValley Lumber Yard to purchase a part for his jump start, went back outside to his vehicle and set the jump start on the ground in the parking lot.  The vicitm then drove around behind the yard to pick up some material, and when he returned to the parking lot the jump start was gone. 

On August 21, 2012 at about 5:35 p.m., Deputy Shane Lamberty was called to the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center to take a report of a person who had an accident on a dirt bike near the North La Junta head gates.  Upon arrival, Deputy Lamberty spoke with the victim who reported falling from his dirt bike and slightly injuring his shoulder.  Their was no damage to the motorcycle.

On August 22, 2012 at about 9:00 a.m., the Otero County Sheriff's Office received a report of a Case brand skid loader being stolen from an address in the 9000 block of Highway 50.  Deputy Rick Ramsay is the investigating officer.  The skid loader is a 60XT skid loader with a gray top and a gray bucket. The remainder of the loader is Case orange.  The loader was stolen between the 21st and 22nd of August from a building.  The loader is valued at about $16,000.00 

On August 25, 2012 at about 9:00 p.m., a female came to the Sheriff's Office to report that she had been receiving harassing text messages from another person while at home in the 24000 block of County Road 27 West of La Junta.  Corporal Carol Coates investigated.

News for August 15, 2012

 On August 6, 2012 at about 5:30 a.m., a female victim came into the Otero County Sheriff's Office to report that she had been sexually assaulted on or about July 17, 2012.  The victim reported that she had allegedly been assaulted at a residence in the 28000 block of County Road Y, west of La Junta.  Deputy Joe Schueller responded, and after investigation, arrested  Christopher Klob-Gutierrez, 24, of La Junta on a warrant charging him with sexual assault.  He was then transported to the Otero County Jail and held on a $50,000.00 bond.

On August 10, 2012 at about 11:00 a.m., the Sheriff's Office responded to a report of stolen fence posts at 301 South Catalpa in Manzanola, Colorado.  The reporting party stated that there were about thirty-five poles stolen valued at about $250.00.  The theft happened sometime between July 29th and August 9th.  Deputy Rick Ramsey is investigating.

On August 11, 2012 at about 4:00 p.m., Deputy Rick Ramsey responded to a call of some stolen furniture from Rent-A-Center on Conley Road in La Junta.  Deputy Ramsey contacted a pickup truck in the 24000 block of Highway 266 that reportedly was carrying possible stolen furniture from Rent-A-Center.  The furniture had been unloaded behind the store and when employees came out to move the furniture into the store it had been picked up by an individual in a pickup truck.  Arrested at the scene was Ignacio Sandoval, 33, of Rocky Ford, Colorado.  Mr. Sandoval was charged with theft $1,000 - $20,000.

On August 13, 2012 at about 1:00 p.m., Deputy Rick Ramsey was dispatched to the report of an abandoned vehicle sitting in the street in the 600 block of Jackson street in North La Junta.  Upon arrival, the vehicle, a Ford Ranger pickup was partially blocking the traffic lane and was towed.

On August 14, 2012 at about 8:00 a.m., the Sheriff's Office responded to a burglary call at a business located at 11 E. Chruch.  The owner reported that sometime overnight someone had kicked the door in on the business and had taken several items from the building.  Taken were a number of Interstate brand car batteries, a battery jump box, and a coin safe.  Deputy Rick Ramsey is investigating.

The charge(s) are merely an accusation and the defendant(s) are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty.

News for August 6, 2012

On July 21, 2012 at about 10:00 a.m., Deputy Alex Gillette was dispatched  to the Vogel Canyon campground on the report of some criminal mischief.  Upon arrival, Deputy Gillette met with an employee of the Forest Service who informed him that damage had been done to the bathroom facilities at the site.  Additionally, damage was reported to the bathroom facilities at the Picketwire Canyon facility, also belonging to the Forest Service.  Damage happened sometime between July 20th and the 21st.  The damage to the facilities was still being determined at press time.

On July 28, 2012 at about 11:45 a.m., the Sheriff's Office received a call about a possible burglary that had happened at a residence in the 500 block of North Canal in Manzanola.  Deputy Alex Gillette responded to the call.  The homeowner reported that he had left for work on July 26th, and when he came home he found that someone had entered the home through an unlocked door and had stolen a 12 gauge single-shot shotgun from the home.  The case is still under investigation.

On July 30, 2012 at about 9:00 a.m., the Sheriff's Office responded to the report of a cold burglary that had happened at an address in the 29000 block of County Road 19 in the Rocky Ford area.  The burglary had happened sometime between the 29th and 30th of July.  The homeowner reported that someone had entered his unlocked garage and removed two sets of Snap-On tools valued at about $1,500.00.  Deputy Alex Gillette is investigating.

On August 1, 2012 at about 4:30 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to the report of criminal mischief at a residence in the 400 block of Powars in Swink, Colorado.  Deputy Rick Ramsey, who responded to the scene met with the owner of a vehicle that had the windshield broken.  The vehicle's windshield was broken with a rock while the car was parked on the street in front of the residence. 

On August 1, 2012 at approximately 12:00 p.m., the Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a burglary at an address in the 400 block of White in North La Junta.  The burglary happened sometime between July 29th and August 1st.  Taken from the home was jewelery, an SKS rifle, 7.62 x 39mm, and a 12 gauge shotgun.  Deputy Rick Ramsey is investigating.

On August 3, 2012 at about 7:20 a.m., the Sheriff's Office responded to the report of a hay theft that had occurred at the 19000 block of County Road 805 in the Rocky Ford area.  The owner of the hay reported about 150 bales being stolen valued at about $1,500.00.  Deputy Rick Ramsey is investigating.

On August 4, 2012 at about 10:00 a.m., the Sheriff's Office responded to the area of 26000 block of Highway 10.  A pickup had been reported parked and stripped at that location behind some trees.  The vehicle was  a steal out of El Paso County.  Deputy Rick Ramsey investigated.

On August 4, 2012 at about 1:30 p.m., the Sheriff's Office responded to a call for assistance along with the Colorado State Patrol and the Fowler Police Department at the intersection of County Road 7 and Highway 50.  Arrested at the scene was a Louis Kantor, 56, of Pueblo, Colorado.  It is alleged that Louis Kantor had assaulted a Fowler Police Officer while an investigation was being conducted by the Colorado State Patrol.  The Fowler officer was only slightly injured.  Mr. Kantor was transported to the Otero County Jail on multiple charges.  Deputy Rick Ramsey investigated.

On August 5, 2012 at about 10:20 a.m., the Sheriff's Office responded to the report of an abandoned vehicle in the 21000 block of County Road CC.  Deputy Rick Ramsey responded and had he vehicle removed from the roadway as it was blocking traffic.
